The Whale: Ένα κτίριο-φάλαινα στην καρδιά του Αρκτικού Κύκλου

Το δανέζικο αρχιτεκτονικό γραφείο Dorte Mandrup επελέγη για τη δημιουργία του «The Whale», ενός προορισμού που φιλοδοξεί να ενδυναμώσει τον τουρισμό στη βόρεια Νορβηγία.

Το κτίσμα θα οικοδομηθεί στην Andenes, μια τοποθεσία στο βορειότερο άκρο της Αndøya, ενός νησιού που βρίσκεται 300 χιλιόμετρα μέσα στον αρκτικό κύκλο, πολύ κοντά στην υποθαλάσσια κοιλάδα Bleiksdjupa, από την οποία περνούν οι φάλαινες όταν μεταναστεύουν, άρα είναι μοναδικός προορισμός για παρατήρηση φαλαινών (whalewatching).

Στην άκρη της ακτής, το κτίριο που σχεδίασε το γραφείο της Dorte Mandrup αναδύεται ως φάλαινα από το άγριο, εντυπωσιακό τοπίο.

The Whale, Andenes, Andøya, intends to become one of Northern Norway’s major attractions, conceived by Copenhagen based architecture practice Dorte Mandrup (@dorte_mandrup), the concept hopes to attract both avid whale-watchers and architecture enthusiasts alike. Andenes is at the tip of Andøya, the northernmost island in the Vesterålen – Lofoten group of islands. At 69 degrees and 300km North, it is well above the Arctic circle, but despite the latitude the winters are relatively mild, and the sea never freezes. Οι επισκέπτες προσκαλούνται να ανεβούν και βαδίσουν στην οροφή απ’ όπου μπορούν να θαυμάσουν ανεμπόδιστα τον ωκεανό, τα βουνά, τον ήλιο του μεσονυχτίου, το βόρειο Σέλας και τα μεγαλοπρεπή θαλάσσια θηλαστικά.

Στο εσωτερικό του, το κτίριο θα φιλοξενεί εκθεσιακούς χώρους, γραφεία, ένα καφέ και ένα κατάστημα, ενώ μεγάλα παράθυρα ανοίγουν προς το νερό.

Το αρχιτεκτονικό πρότζεκτ του δανέζικου αρχιτεκτονικού γραφείου είναι «ποιητικό και χαμηλών τόνων και, ταυτόχρονα, ένα πολύ συναρπαστικό και ασυνήθιστο κτίριο» τόνισε ο Børre Berglund, διευθύνων σύμβουλος της Whale AS και επικεφαλής της επιτροπής για τον αρχιτεκτονικό διαγωνισμό.

«Όχι μόνον θα δημιουργήσουμε ένα αρχιτεκτόνημα σε ακόμη ένα αξιοσημείωτο τοπίο, αλλά θα συμμετάσχουμε στην ενίσχυση της κατανόησης των φαλαινών και της προστασίας της θαλάσσιας ζωής» δήλωσε από την πλευρά της, στο Designboom, η Dorte Mandrup.

Το «The Whale» αναμένεται να ανοίξει τις πύλες του στο κοινό, το 2022.
