Η δύναμη της διαφορετικότητας μέσα από την νέα έκθεση του οίκου Gucci

Μία νέα έκθεση του οίκου Gucci με τίτλο «No Space, Just A Place. Eterotopia» διοργανώνεται στο Μουσείο Daelim στη Σεούλ και προτείνει έναν νέο ορισμό του «άλλου χώρου» ως τόπου στον οποίο είναι εφικτή η κατανόηση της διαφορετικότητας.

Το πολυεπίπεδο πρότζεκτ που επιμελήθηκαν η Μίριαμ Μπεν Σαλάχ και ο επικεφαλής σχεδιαστής του Gucci, Αλεσάντρο Μικέλε, σύμφωνα με τον ιταλικό οίκο μόδας, στοχεύει στην υποστήριξη του πλούσιου πολιτιστικού τοπίου και της σκηνής σύγχρονης τέχνης της Σεούλ, αντλώντας έμπνευση από τη «σύνθετη ιστορία ανεξάρτητων και εναλλακτικών χώρων τέχνης» στην πρωτεύουσα της Νότιας Κορέας.

Η ιδέα της προξενίας, όπως ήταν γνωστή στην αρχαία Ελλάδα βρίσκεται στον πυρήνα της έκθεσης που επιδιώκει αναδείξει το «είμαστε μαζί» αλλά «δεν είμαστε ίδιοι».

Ανεξάρτητοι χώροι τέχνης της Σεούλ και οι ομάδες τους, αποτελούμενες από καλλιτέχνες απ΄όλο τον κόσμο παρουσιάζουν ένα πρότζεκτ τους με τη μορφή μεγάλης εγκατάστασης στην έκθεση που εκτείνεται στους τρεις ορόφους του Μουσείου.

«Κάθε έργο είναι θεματικά συνδεδεμένο με την ιδέα των εναλλακτικών χώρων ως ουτοπικού τόπου στον οποίο θα δημιουργηθούν νέες δυναμικές αφηγήσεις, βασισμένες στην κατανόηση της ετερότητας και στην εξερεύνηση των μειονοτικών ταυτοτήτων» σύμφωνα με τον ιταλικό οίκο.

Η έκθεση εξερευνά την «εναλλακτικότητα» μέσα από τις εστίες τέχνης που δημιουργήθηκαν τη δεκαετία του 1990 στη Νότια Κορέα, αμφισβήτησαν την εμπορική τέχνη και είχαν εμπλοκή στην πολιτική.

Introducing ‘No Space, Just a Place. Eterotopia’ a multi-layered project powered by #Gucci to support the cultural landscape and contemporary art scene in Seoul. Taking its cue from the complex history of independent and alternative art spaces in Seoul and Gucci’s Creative Director @alessandro_michele’s reflections on eterotopia, the exhibition proposes a new definition of what an “other space” might be: a place to build a different, desirable future with new ways for humans to relate to each other and to their surroundings. Curated by Myriam Ben Salah @myriambensalah, the exhibition is held at the @daelimmuseum in Seoul—a location part of the #GucciPlaces network—and features independent and alternative art spaces as well as international artists’ works including @oliviaerlanger’s ‘Ida, Ida, Ida!’ (image 1, 2 and 3) which transforms the space into a laundromat inhabited by mermaid tales and @meriembennani’s ‘Party on the CAPS’ (2018-2019): a video installation that follows the imaginary inhabitants of CAPS, an Island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean where refugees and immigrants “illegally” traversing borders are interned. The ethical and aesthetic value of the relationships between genres and gender, the notion of learnscapes, the urgency of self-expression and an ageless anthropological manifesto are key themes of #Gucci Creative Director @alessandro_michele’s meditations on society, which are reflected in the mission and ambitions of the alternative spaces featured in the new exhibition ‘No Space Just A Place’. To add to the dialogue, curator @myriambensalah asked a selection of local and international artists to exhibit their works, in the form of immersive installations inspired by the near future or by fantastic mythologies. Kang Seung Lee @kangseunglee’s wallpaper installation ‘Covers (QueerArch)’ (pictured in image 1 and 2) centers on QueerArch’s archival collection to present an alternative view of the queer community and its history in South Korea during the past four decades, honoring personal narratives that have been marginalized by mainstream history. #MartineSyms’ video installation ‘Notes on Gesture’ (image 3) is a reflection on the way gesture, body language and actual language are shaped by cultural forces and allow to perform identity—implying that the latter is a construct and opening up possibilities for alternative identities. Cécile B. Evans @cecilebevans’ installation ‘What The Heart Wants’ (seen in images 4 and 5) explores the person-to-machine exchanges that have come to define the contemporary human condition. Amidst the paradoxes of a future-turned-now, a negotiation emerges about who or what constitutes a person and how systems shape the terms of what it means to be “human”. Taking its cue from the complex history of independent and alternative art spaces in Seoul and @alessandro_michele’s reflections on eterotopia, ‘No Space Just A Place’ is a multi-layered project powered by #Gucci to support the cultural landscape and contemporary art scene in Seoul. Seen in image 1 and 2, the independent art space d/p focuses on a space that can never be other: the body, an eternal site from which we can never escape. Through the documentation of choreographer #YunjungLee’s performance ‘Tongue Gymnastics’, d/p focuses on the movement of the body, of the tongue in particular, addressing it both as a place and an environment for sensations and connections. Image 3 and 4 Audio Visual Pavilion @avpavilion combines works from its archives for the project ‘AVP Route’ that questions the notions of movement and transition through time and space. Among other artworks, Audio Visual Pavilion presents pieces by artist #SunhoPark that examine artifact, memories and vanished spaces, as well as geographical information and their eerie materialization through maps. space illi @space_illi_1and2 presents ‘Swimming QFWFQ*’ (image 5), a project gathering the works of women artists that are linked by their determination to take a closer look at what we consider to be “natural”. By deconstructing and reassembling the concept itself, they create a shift in the viewer’s perspective to reveal the hidden cracks of our contemporary societies. In ‘I love we love we love I’ (seen in image 6), Space One @artspaceone stirs up the illusion of emotion as simulacra. Presenting an archive of exhibitions, performances, and talks from the space’s program, the micro-exhibition moves around the boundaries of romanticism and criticism. Στην έκθεση συμμετέχουν οι γκαλερί Audio Visual Pavilion, Boan1942, d/p, Hapjungjigu, OF, Post Territory Ujeongguk, space illi, Space One, Tastehouse και οι καλλιτέχνες Meriem Bennani, Olivia Erlanger, Cécile B. Evans, Kang Seung Lee, μεταξύ πολλών άλλων.

Ο Kang Seung Lee, Κορεάτης καλλιτέχνης με έδρα το Λος Άντζελες, εξετάζει τις ομάδες στο περιθώριο της κοινωνίας, καλύπτοντας τους τοίχους της κεντρικής σκάλας του Μουσείου με φωτοτυπίες περίπου 1.700 εξώφυλλων βιβλίων και περιοδικών από το Korea Queer Archive σε ένα αφιέρωμα στις γενιές ακτιβιστών για τα δικαιώματα της LGBTQ κοινότητας, μελετητών και καλλιτεχνών.

Στη βιντεοεγκατάσταση «Party on the Caps» η Meriem Bennani αντιμετωπίζει ανατρεπτικά τον εκτοπισμό και τη μετανάστευση μέσω έξυπνης αφήγησης και χιούμορ.

«What the Heart Wants» είναι ο τίτλος της βίντεο εγκατάστασης της Cécile B. Evans, Αμερικανο-Βελγίδας καλλιτέχνη που ζει στο Λονδίνο. Το έργο εξερευνά τις ανταλλαγές από ανθρώπους σε μηχανήματα και αποτελεί έναν φόρο τιμής τόσο στην τεχνολογική πρόοδο όσο και στην ικανότητα το ανθρώπου, να αισθάνεται, να αγαπά.

Υπό το φως της απόστασης και της απομόνωσης που προκαλείται από την παγκόσμια κρίση υγείας, υπάρχει ένα νέο ενδιαφέρον για «εναλλακτικούς» τρόπους διαβίωσης, εργασίας και επικοινωνίας.

Και ίσως μια ευκαιρία αλλαγής του κατεστημένου, με τρόπους που τιμούν αντί να καταδικάζουν την «ετερότητα». Με αυτήν την αισιόδοξη οπτική, η Μπεν Σαλάχ τοποθετεί την έκθεση στην περίοδο της πανδημίας του κοροναϊού.

«Στον κόσμο της τέχνης, πιστεύω, ελπίζω ότι η τρέχουσα κρίση θα μας αναγκάσει να επικεντρωθούμε σε αυτό που πραγματικά έχει σημασία : καλή τέχνη, καλοί καλλιτέχνες και σημαντικές ιδέες» τονίζει.

Η περιήγηση στην έκθεση που θα διαρκέσει έως τις 12 Ιουλίου είναι δυνατή και μέσω διαδικτύου.
