The airport of Volos today starts the new tourist season, with the first flight coming from France, from the airport of Charles de Gaulle in Paris.
This is a Transavia France flight with 189 passengers. The aircraft will land just before 7 pm at the state airport of Volos, in Nea Anchialos, and will be welcomed by a water arch from fire trucks at the end of the runway just before the terminal of the airport. The first French tourists will head mainly to the Club Méditerranée which operates in the area of Lichada.
According to airport manager Costas Efstathiou, the schedule of arrivals from Germany, Britain, France, the Netherlands, and Israel will be finalized within June, while it is possible that additional routes may emerge from new departure locales in Europe, but these will become known in the second fortnight of June.
At present, the German airline Condor has announced twice-weekly flights to Volos from Düsseldorf and Frankfurt starting June 5, EasyJet also from June 12 with double weekly flights from Gatwick and London and from the end of the month the Volos – Tel Aviv flights will start.
At the same time, in June, Volos airport will be one of those that will have air support on subsidized domestic flights to remote destinations and in the first phase, the Greek airline Sky Express adds to the Volos-Heraklion route. This is a new regular itinerary, with two routes per week, which will start in mid-June, connecting the airport “Nikos Kazantzakis” of Heraklion with the airport of Volos in Nea Anchialos.
With the new regular air connection, Thessaly and Central Greece will now come very close to Crete, forming channels for the development of tourist mobility and economic activity of the two regions. This is a special and very positive development that creates new data for the airport of Volos.
