Estimates of 2,600 Covid-19 cases by the end of July in Greece
High increase of Covid-19 cases with the Delta variant being the dominant one.
Professor of Environmental engineering, Dimosthenis Sarigiannis, warned for a high increase of Covid-19 cases in Greece (2,600 cases by the end of July) as Delta variant is fast becoming the world’s dominant Covid strain.
Speaking at the ieidiseis.gr the professor pointed out that the average number of Covid cases this week was 742. The next seven days the cases are expected to rise to 1,143, while, by the end of July, a number of 2.600 cases is expected in Greece.
Therefore, by the end of July the Covid-19 cases will steadily increase and from August everything will depend on the vaccination rates and the compliance with the precautionary measures against Covid-19. If we had achieved a better vaccination rate and not just a 40%, then we would have had less cases.
High possibility of a new lockdown
The Greek government insists on avoiding a horizontal lockdown, but the professor recalls that once the cases rise, the government can’t just stay inactive. They will proceed to taking measures in different places of Greece, but if the cases soar, they will impose a general lockdown, Mr. Sarigiannis continues by also adding that, at the time being, he can’t reassure that there won’t be any other lockdowns in the future.
