Confirming the trend that emerged at the beginning of autumn to recover at least 50% of the 2019 passenger traffic at the country’s airports, the October data are even more encouraging for the country’s main regional tourist portals. Passenger traffic in the first ten months of the year is almost double compared to 2020 for the 14 airports managed by Fraport Greece, counting a total of 16,344,235 passengers.

In fact, passenger traffic has already exceeded half of the total passenger traffic in 2019, a record year for Greek tourism, which amounted to 30.15 million passengers, while the outlook for 2022 is particularly optimistic. With travel restrictions eased as vaccinations progress, although concerns about the transmissibility of mutations, such as Delta, are present, more and more people are returning to travel.

In particular, according to data from FraportGreece, in the first ten months of the year, an increase in passenger traffic by 94.7% was recorded, compared to the corresponding period of 2020, when 8,394,999 people were transported. International passenger traffic more than doubled in the first ten months, recording an increase of 119.6% compared to 2020, when domestic flights increased by 35%. Overseas flights also more than doubled, reaching 115,498 against 54,596.

Respectively, in October, 2,422,097 passengers were handled compared to 1,133,772 last year, recording an increase of 113.6%. Flights increased by 85.8%, driven mainly by international flights which almost doubled (+ 99.2%).
