Another 2.500 rooms in five, four-star hotels in greater Athens area added, despite pandemic
The increase was more pronounced in the municipality of Athens
The number hotels and accommodations in the greater Athens area continued to grow over the previous year, despite the ominous repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic on the hospitality sector.
The increase was more pronounced in the municipality of Athens, and especially in the historic city center, with five-star lodgings up by 17 percent over the past five years. The number of four-star hotels, in the same area, increased by 7 percent, according to released figures. Rooms also increased, 4 and 6 percent, respectively, for five- and four-star hotels.
At the same time, an analysis by GBR Consulting calculates that up to 2,500 rooms are under construction, beyond new units on the design boards and excluding some the roughly 2,500 rooms linked to the Helleniko project in coastal southeast Athens.
All of the aforementioned figures were presented during a joint event on Tuesday by the Athens – Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association (EXAAA) and the Athens International Airport, where the annual study on the sector in the greater Athens area was presented.
