A consortium comprised of Greek construction multinationals Terna, Aktor and Intrakat has been declared the temporary high bidder for the first expansion of the Attica tollway (Attiki Odos), a two-decades-old landmark road project in the greater Athens area.
The bid relates to the expansion from the Kymis boulevard intersection – just west of the Athens Olympic Stadium (OAKA) complex – northwest to link up with the Athens-Lamia national highway.
The project is valued at 434 million euros, and attracted major interest by the country’s top-tier construction companies.
The specific project, which extends a mere 4.2 kilometers, is nevertheless judged as very important in reducing traffic congestion at the specific segment of the Attica tollway, which runs from the Elefsina toll station in the west to the Athens International Airport (AIA) in the east.
