Over one million visitors arriving by plane have landed on the islands of the South Aegean before mid-June, and flight occupancy rates are at very high levels for the season.
Specifically, 1,118,797 passengers landed in the South Aegean through 7,008 flights, of which about half (583,042) in Rhodes, 260,660 in Kos, 167,110 in Santorini, 94,800 in Mykonos and 13,185 in Karpathos.
After April, May moved higher
For the South Aegean, May 2022 has proven better than May 2019, by 4.5% with the islands of Santorini and Rhodes recording the largest increases (35% and 4.6% respectively), while the tally of the first months of the tourist season, until end of May, shows an increase of 6.6% compared to the record year of 2019.
Top markets per island
Great Britain and Germany remain the top markets for Kos and Rhodes, in May as well.
Swedes and Dutch tourists are especially interested in Rhodes. The Cycladic islands of Mykonos and Santorini are mostly preferred the most by the British and Italians, followed by Germans and French.
