Olympiacos FC owner Vangelis Marinakis on Friday called on Greek professional football to assume its responsibilities and fate, while expressing his gratitude to team members of the Super League for their confidence in electing him as the new president of the country’s top-flight association football league.
The president of the popular Piraeus-based football club said it was imperative that all team owners in the League truly want professional football to advance along the right path, something that will allow Greece’s Super League to become one of the best in Europe. He also cited a need for a five-year plan in all sectors of Greek football, making it clear that all sides must assume the responsibilities and fate of Greek football.
Taking to his Instagram account, the owner of Greece’s reigning Super League champions wrote:
“I would like to thank all Super League clubs for their trust and to make it clear to all football fans that it is time for Greek football to move forward, if this is what club owners truly desire; and we all have to commit to that!
“That is, to bring Greek football in the elite of European leagues.
New stadiums are being built and work is being done at all levels so we may build a 5-year plan, if not longer, for more revenues for all; for financially robust organizations, with a solid shareholder structure; with fans filling the stands; with state-of-the-art stadiums, safe and functional training centers, and Academies that will be able to promote Greek talents.
“It is time for professional football to take on the responsibility of building a model Super League for other countries,” Marinakis said.
