Retail sales volume in Greece down 4.2% in May 2022

Retail sales volume in Greece fell by 4.2 percent in May 2022, with the majority of retail categories reporting a decline, Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT) announced on Friday.
Specifically, sales in the clothing-footwear sector fell by 17.9 percent; by 10 percent in food-alcohol-tobacco sector; supermarkets a decline of 7.6 percent, while the fuel-lubricants sector was down by 6.8 percent.
Conversely, the retail sales volume rose by 8.3 percent in the sectors of furniture/home equipment, by 5 percent for department stores and 2.8 percent for pharmaceuticals-cosmetics.
The retail sales volume index (turnover in fixed prices) fell by 4.2 percent in May 2022 compared to May 2021, and by 11 percent compared to the previous month, April 2022. The seasonally adjusted index fell by 4.9 percent in May 2022, compared to April 2022.
