Aquaculture: Memorandum of Cooperation for the integration of third country nationals into the labour market

A Memorandum of Cooperation among the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the Ministry of Migration and Asylum and the International Organization for Migration was signed today with the aim of facilitating the integration of third country nationals into the local labour market and the society.

The cooperation aims at implementing a programme for training and placing third country nationals in aquaculture sector jobs.

In addition, as stated in a joint communication of the Ministries of Migration and Rural Development, economic development at regional level and increased socio-economic benefits for the communities of both hosts and guests are also achieved through this cooperation.

Following the signing of the memorandum, the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Simos Kedikoglou, stressed that: “Everyone will benefit from this cooperation. The aquaculture sector is rapidly growing. It is no coincidence that fish farming products are the country’s most exported product in terms of the primary sector. We provide a solution to the problem of labour shortage and, at the same time, we offer a good perspective to immigrants for their integration into the Greek society”.

Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum, Sofia Voultepsi stressed that: “Education and transition to the labour market is the epitome of integration. For my part, I facilitate and contribute to every educational effort that aims at real integration and leads to increased GDP, exports and more jobs for all”.

On behalf of the International Organization for Migration, the memorandum was signed by the head of IOM Greece, Gianluca Rocco.
