Eight infrastructure projects will proceed with the forced expropriation method legally foreseen for the execution of projects of general importance for the country’s economy was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Kostas Karamanlis, during the Council of Ministers, which met under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The list comprises seven road projects implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, as well as one more building project for the municipality of Neapolis – Sykeon.

Earmarked projects

1. The Central Greece Motorway (E65).

2. The Ionian Road Motorway from Antirrio to Ioannina, the Patras to the northern border highway (Patras – Athens – Thessaloniki – Evzoni border crossing) from the Uneven Junction of Metamorfosi to Skarfeia in Maliakos, as well as the Connecting Branch of the highway to Schimatari – Chalkida.

3. Elefsina – Corinth – Patra – Pyrgos – Tsakona Motorway.

4. The Patras – Athens – Thessaloniki – Evzoni  highway in the Maliakos – Kliidi section.

5. The Corinth – Tripoli – Kalamata Motorway and the Lefktro – Sparta Branch, and

6. The New International Airport of Heraklion Crete and its Road Connections

7. The improvement of the 9th National Road, in the section of the Gialova Bypass in Messinia

Especially with regard to this last project, the minister emphasized its general importance for the economy of the country, but also for the wider area of ​​the Regional Unity of Messinia, as well as the entire Peloponnese Region, since as he pointed out the specific road network has a heavy traffic load, due to the strong tourist development and the popularity of the area.

Furthermore, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport proposed the construction of the 1st Vocational High School of the Municipality of Neapolis Sykeon. The construction of the school unit is of strategic importance, as an emblematic educational infrastructure project, since it will give substance to ​​vocational education in Central and North Thessaloniki, which currently lacks a similar school complex.
