Minister Kikilias noted that 2022 showed that tourism is the “steam engine” of the Greek economy
Athens, after many years of hardship is basking in the success of this year’s tourist season, according to Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias, speaking at the 9th Strategic Conference “Investments in Greece & Development Prospects-2022” which is taking place today with the initiative of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and the Hellenic Institute of Entrepreneurship & Sustainable Development, and with the support of the Athens Stock Exchange. The minister also pointed out that tourism is on the front line of the great nationwide effort for the Greek economy and society.
Travelers flock to Athens
Mr. Kikilias underscored that despite the fact that we are at the end of September, Athens is still full of travelers from all over the world and the aim now is for October to move at high levels as well. Mr Kikilias noted how tourism is a direct return economy fueling dozens of other professions, from primary production and the commercial sector, to food service and obviously the professions of the tourism industry, most of which are SMEs. Mr Kikilias added that 2022 is a year that clearly confirms with measurable results that tourism is the “steam engine” of the Greek economy, which is also drawing the attention of foreign investors.
