Piraeus: Strike ties up coastal shipping vessels today

Coastal shipping vessels departing for routes from the port of Piraeus will remain docked from 00:01 in the morning until 12 midnight this Tuesday, due to a 24-hour strike called by sailors unions.

The seamen’s unions of the Panhellenic Union of Merchant Marine Engineers (PEMEN), the Panhellenic Union of Merchant Marine Sailors (PENEN), the Panhellenic Union of Stewards (PEATHEN), the Panhellenic Union of Lower Crews of the Merchant Navy (O STEFENSON) and the Panhellenic Union of Tugboat and Rescue vessel Crews demand the withdrawal of the revised Code of Private Maritime Law, renewal and implementation of the Collective Labor Agreements, with increases in wages.

It is noted that the mobilization of the Tugboat and Rescue vessel Crews is nationwide.

The sailors unions will hold a rally at 10 am in the port of Piraeus opposite the power station. The Piraeus Labor Center expresses its solidarity with today’s workers’ mobilization in Piraeus in a statement.

A 24-hour strike action is in force today by the Metal union, the Shipwrights union and the port workers’ union of the Piraeus Wharf Handling Workers’ Union (ENEDEP) at the Piraeus Container Station.

The ENEDEP port workers’ union emphasizes that on Tuesday there will be no handling of containers at piers II and III, while it requests the inclusion of all workers in the heavy and unhealthy labor regime, implementation of the Collective Labor Agreement for all dock workers and measures for Hygiene and Safety.

At 12:00 noon, the port workers will hold a rally and event in memory of their colleague Dimitris Daglis at the Piraeus SEP Container Station, where he tragically died and where his photo has been enshrined.
