Thessaloniki: Pleasure boat Kostantis destroyed by fire

The emblematic “Kostantis” pleasure boat has been completely destroyed. Over the last few years Kostantis sailed from the port of Thessaloniki to beaches of the Thermaikos Gulf during the summer months. “Kostantis” is one of the two boats that went up in flames during a fire that broke out at 1 a.m. in a shipyard in the area of ​​Thermi.

The news was confirmed by a representative of the “KARAVAKIA Thessaloniki Waterbus” company, to which “Kostantis” belonged.

Total destruction

As it became known, the damage caused to the boat is total. Causes of the fire remain unclear. “Kostantis” had 187 seats and made its last voyage at the beginning of October (since then it had been transferred to the shipyard). In 2017, it started its sea routes from the port of Thessaloniki and the White Tower to Perea and Neoi Epivates.

This season, it had registered an increase of almost 15% in passenger traffic, compared to the corresponding season last year, selling 55 to 60 thousand tickets. 90% of its passengers this year were foreign tourists who visited Thessaloniki and preferred the “mini cruise” in the Thermaikos Gulf.

The same company has another ship in its fleet, the “Calypso”, but this year it did not go to sea due to repairs.
