“The quality of the research produced at the National Technical University of Athens opens up great opportunities for its business exploitation”, emphasized the state deputy of New Democracy and chairman of the Parliament’s Research and Technology Committee, professor Christos Tarandilis, during his visit to the National Technical University of Athens-NTUA, where he spoke with the rector authorities, with representatives of the research potential and founders of technologists, i.e. companies of the NTUA and the Research University Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (EPISEY), with the aim of exploiting their research results.
Goals
From the meeting it became clear the importance that Mr. Tarantilis attaches to the interaction with the research world in his area of activity, with a twofold goal:
• highlighting the high level of basic and applied research carried out in Greek institutions, such as NTUA, and
• the most immediate recording of problems and proposed solutions in matters of business exploitation of research results produced in universities, research centers and innovative companies.
Technology transfer
Joint finding from the working meeting of Mr. Tarantilis with the Rector of NTUA, Mr. Andreas Boutouvis, the Vice-Rector for Research and Lifelong Learning, Mr. Ioannis Chatzigeorgiou, the former Chairman of the Board and Director of EPISEY, Mr. Ioannis Vassiliou, the representatives of startups of NTUA and the NTUA Technology Transfer Office and the Energy Competence Center, was that great activity has been demonstrated in recent years in matters of technology transfer, as there is a determination to respond to the challenge of “translating” research results into products and services of high added value .
According to Mr. Tarantilis, the quality of the research produced at NTUA opens up great opportunities for business exploitation. Therefore, the granting of patents, the cooperation with large companies (license agreement) and the increase of the startup companies of Greek universities and research centers that produce truly innovative technological products and services, attracting international capital and talent to our country, is an achievable goal of national importance.
