Those who have flown even once from “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport know this well: Athens airport is one of the most modern and comfortable airports in Europe.

Although simple, “El. Venizelos” is a well-organized, clean and comfortable airport, which satisfies both Greeks and the millions of tourists who visit it every year.

This has an effect, they then leave good reviews on the Google platform. These reviews even raised Athens International Airport to the top of Europe’s airports.

In Greece the best and the worst airport in Europe

In particular, in a recent survey by the British Holidu regarding the best airports in Europe, based on the reviews left by Google users, it turned out that “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport is in the first place of preferences with a rating of 4.4 stars out of 5!

As can be seen in the photo, with more than 29,000 reviews the Greek airport collected a rating of 4.4 stars, giving it first place.

The same rating (i.e. 4.4 stars) is also achieved by Zurich Airport in Switzerland, as well as Francisco Sá Carneiro in Porto, Portugal. However, both have about half the reviews of “Eleftherios Venizelos”. This is also the reason why Athens airport is in first place.

The top five is completed by Alicante International Airport in Alicante, Spain and Malta International Airport, with 4.3 stars each.

It is worth noting that in 11th place with a rating of 4.2 stars, is Thessaloniki’s “Macedonia” airport.

In Greece…  the second worst airport in Europe

Because of course the perfect doesn’t exist anywhere except at the top of the list, we find a Greek airport… and at the bottom of the list!

Specifically, in the penultimate position, 85th, with a score of only 2.8 stars out of 5, is the State Airport of Heraklion “N. Kazantzakis” in Crete.

Out of a total of 14,000 reviews it has just 2.7 stars on Google, with Bordeaux Airport in France being the only one worse than this in the whole of Europe.
