Jailed MEP Eva Kaili will be freed from pre-trial remand in Belgium on Friday, which is Good Friday for Orthodox Christians, at roughly 11 a.m. local time, according to her attorneys.

Her Greek attorney, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos said a tracking bracelet was finally found – one of the conditions for her release on bail – thus allowing this week’s decision by a Belgian judicial council for her release to be implemented.

Kaili has remained in lockup since early December 2022 on felony charges of bribery and influence peddling in the European Parliament, the notorious “Qatar-gate” furor.
Meanwhile, in a clue to what her defense team will argue if the case comes to trial, Dimitrakopoulos told reporters in Brussels on Friday that none of his client’s fingerprints were found on the makeshift wads of cash seized from her apartment or in her father’s possession – totaling several hundred of thousands of euros.

He also claimed there was significant evidence in the criminal indictment to prove Kaili’s innocence.
