Retail turnover up by 9.8% in April
What the data show
An increase of 9.8% was recorded in the turnover in retail trade during April 2022.
According to data from Hellenic Statistical Authority-ELSTAT, for businesses in the retail trade sector with an obligation for double-entry accounting bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in April 2023 amounted to 3.39 billion euros, marking an increase of 9.8% compared to April 2022 which had been formed at 3.09 billion euros and a decrease of 1.2% compared to March 2023 which had been formed at 3.43 billion euros.
The activities that showed the largest increase in turnover in April 2023 compared to April 2022 are:
• Retail trade of used goods in stores, an increase of 195.5%.
• Retail trade of music and video recordings in specialized stores, up 38.8%.
The activities that showed the largest decrease in turnover in April 2023 compared to April 2022 are:
• Retail trade of carpets, kilims and floor and wall coverings in specialized stores, reduction
35.7%.
• Retail trade by mail order or internet sales businesses, down 10.2%.
What happened in the Regions
The Regions that showed the largest increase in turnover in April 2023 compared to April 2022 are:
• Region of Western Macedonia, an increase of 19.8%.
• Region of Crete, increase of 12.9%.
The Region that showed a decrease in turnover in April 2023 compared to April 2022 is:
• North Aegean region, a decrease of 12.4%.
For small and medium-sized businesses in the retail trade sector with an obligation for double-entry accounting bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in April 2023 amounted to 1.13 billion euros, marking an increase of 8.5% compared to April 2022 which had been formed at 1.05 billion euros.
Excluding vehicles, food and fuel
For businesses in the retail sector, with the exception of vehicles, food and fuel, with an obligation for double-entry accounting bookkeeping, for which there are data available on a monthly basis, the turnover of
April 2023 amounted to 0.93 billion euros, marking an increase of 10.8% compared to April 2022 which was formed at 0.84 billion euros and an increase of 7.4% in relation to March 2023 which was formed at 0.87 billion euros.
The Regions that showed the largest increase in turnover in April 2023 compared to April 2022 are:
• Region of Western Macedonia, an increase of 25.0%.
• South Aegean Region, 13.9% increase.
The Region that showed a decrease in turnover in April 2023 compared to April 2022 is:
• North Aegean region, a decrease of 4.6%.
For small and medium-sized enterprises in the retail trade sector, excluding vehicles, food and fuel, with an obligation for double-entry accounting bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in April 2023 amounted to 0.46 billion euros , marking an increase of 8.4% compared to April 2022 which had been formed at 0.42 billion euros.
