Long-time PASOK deputy, ex-minister resigns from party; cites ‘political reasons’

Long-time PASOK party lawmaker and former minister Andreas Loverdos on Wednesday announced his resignation from all internal party organs and even his outright departure, citing “exclusively political” reasons.
Loverdos, who was runner-up in his specific Athens-area election district during the June 25 election – behind fellow PASOK candidate Milena Apostolaki – and thus failed to enter Parliament with the sociallist party, added that he’s already briefed party president Nikos Androulakis over his decision and spelled out the reasons.
“I am resigning also as a member of the party (PASOK-KINAL). The reasons for my resignation are exclusively political … I would like to wish the president, the (party) cadres and thousands of PASOK-KINAL members success in their struggle and efforts… Towards the PASOK members, officials and voters, who’ve expressed their love, and for whom I’ve also expressed my love: my decision is for the common good and, above all, crystal clear.”
