Shock as unleaded gasoline on Greek islands shoots up to 3 euros
What OT research reveals
The rally of liquid fuel price increases is going beyond all limits.
With each passing day more and more price hikes are passed on to consumers, with holidaymakers shouldering huge costs on their road trips.
The OT investigation is revealing of the magnitude of the price fluctuations but also of a profit party that seems to have been set up especially in the island regions. The ceiling… of the government looks like aspirin compared to the price of 3 euros touched by regular unleaded, according to official data revealed by OT.
Regular unleaded petrol costs 3 euros
The price increases are recorded in the Liquid Fuel Price Observatory of the Ministry of Development, as are the sales prices at gas stations in each region of the country.
On August 2, the highest price for gasoline was posted. And it is located in Kos at 2,999 euros per liter. Just a hair from 3 euros, breaking every record in the history of the Greek fuel market.
This price may not have been recorded even during 2022, when liquid fuel prices throughout Greece had greatly exceeded 2 euros due to the energy crisis.
It is worth emphasizing that gas stations are obliged to inform the Liquid Fuel Price Observatory every time they change the fuel price.
OT recorded the price of 2,999 euros based on what is subsequently published and accessible to the public.
Big increases
As can be seen from the prices published by OT today, the party of high prices on the islands is well underway…
In many areas, as in the aforementioned Kos, the high prices of unleaded gasoline raise suspicions of profiteering.
In just five days the increases even reached 0.09 euros per liter.
From the processing of the highest prices collected by the OT from the islands, it appears that gasoline has jumped to unimaginable levels. In Milos unleaded has reached 2.45 euros per liter, in Patmos at 2.369 euros per liter, in Nisyros at 2.36 euros per liter, in Leros at 2.35 euros and so on.
Price gouging
And today the average price of unleaded gasoline saw a new increase.
Based on the data of the Observatory of Liquid Fuel Prices, it was formed nationwide at 1.962 euros per liter when yesterday it was at 1.959 euros per liter and on August 1st at 1.954 euros per liter.
On July 1, it was at 1,863 euros per liter. In just over a month, unleaded has become more expensive by almost 0.10 euros per liter. To be exact, 0.099 euros per liter.
The “hat”, i.e. the difference between the highest price of 2,999 euros per liter and the national average of 1,962 exceeds 1 euro per liter.
