Wildfires in Greece: Parnitha, Evros, Boeotia – Flare-ups
According to the Fire Department’s press representative, the multiple fronts that took place at the same time in the country are troubling the authorities who are now talking about malicious actions.
The fire continues to burn in Parnitha, with the picture being clearly better, while in Evros the fire is ongoing for the 7th day. A battle to extinguish the fire is also being fought in Boeotia.
According to the Fire Department, the situation on the fire fronts is stable, while an order was given for aerial vehicles to take off.
In Parnitha, strong forces are operating and facing flare-ups, mainly on its southwest side, near the Clan Fortress.
In the Evros and Rhodope, most flare-ups have occurred in Dadia, while in Boeotia, the fire during the night had continuous flare-ups. The forehead burns in hard-to-reach areas.
So far, however, no other residential areas are at risk.
The press representative of the Fire Department, Yannis Artopios, speaking today to ERT, stated that “at the moment there is no large active front in Parnitha”, adding that the efforts of the fire brigade are focused on the front that exists due to the resurgence in Fyli. As he said, the situation on the other fronts is better except for Dadia, in Evros where there is the biggest problem”.
Arson
Mr. Artopios emphasized that the multiple fronts that took place at the same time in the country are troubling authorities who are now talking about malicious actions.
“We will manage to prove that there is intervention on these fronts” said Mr. Artopioos, stating that the intelligence agency-EYP and Fire Fighting Department are now involved in the investigations being carried out on the arson.
As he revealed, two people are wanted in Evia on suspicion of arson.” Making special reference to the area, he emphasized that “in Thiva, we had 4 and 5 ongoing fires. Boeotia had at one time been surrounded from all sides. At the moment, the most serious problem concerns Iliki, while the fire in Steiri is doing better.”
He even added that “these different events, in a short period of time, make it more difficult to deal with them” pointing out how difficult it is to manage them. According to him, material and testimonies have been collected about arson on all fronts.
