Editorial Ta Nea: Consensus
Political parties have a duty to weigh all the parameters before responding to the nomination of the majority and to rise to the occasion.

Mr. Mitsotakis has taken an innovative approach and has defused past tensions linked to the election of the president by making a decision that signifies political progress in the country.
In his address, Mitsotakis said, "The decision I had to make was by no means easy, as the person fulfilling the role has to incorporate the nation's unity, have a sense of duty, knowledge, prestige and international experience.”
In a rare diplomatic move Vice-President President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo hosted a reception for the Greek prime minister which naturally was attended by Greek-American leaders and wealthy potential donors.
For Greece a presidential statement regarding Turkish violations of international law in the Southeast Mediterranean and the Aegean would have been welcome but there was no joint press conference after the talks.
The two leaders are expected to surely discuss the volatile situation created by Turkey in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, where US energy giant ExxonMobil has acquired drilling rights in Cyprus' EEZ.
'We must state clearly that if we cannot agree on the sole dispute that Greece recognises – delimitation of the continental shelf of the Aegean and eastern Mediterranean – that should be adjudicated by the International Court of Justice,' the PM said.
It was truly a violent decade. The responsibility lies largely with the left-wing right-wing hybrid government that ruled the country for four-and-a-half years.
the star has long had a very personal relationship with the country as his wife actress Rita Wilson is of Greek descent on her mother’s side.
The aim is to block Ankara’s attempt to create de facto situations – by delimiting EEZs in an illegal manner - that threaten the interests of regional countries and international players.
The atmosphere and climate in the economy and society improved and the political change proved positive as it created a new dynamic.
The leader of Turkey loses no opportunity to display his aggressiveness. Yesterday he spoke about grey zones in the Aegean (Greek islands whose sovereignty Ankara disputes) and accused Greece and its allies of trying to block Turkey’s access to the sea. He announced that he will bolster Ankara’s military support for the government of Libya. Athens responds to this intransigence with the Agreement of the Four in which it is joined by Israel, Egypt, and Cyprus for the construction of the EastMed pipeline. Greece is also taking initiatives in the Middle East such as the foreign minister’s trip to Libya and Egypt yesterday. Along with these moves the government must not forget that Turkey will remain our neighbour. Hence, channels of communication must remain open not in order to make bilateral agreements on issues (mainly of sovereignty) that divide the countries and which Athens has always considered non-negotiable, but rather to make it possible for Greece and Turkey to eventually go to the International Court of Justice to resolve issues that the two sides have agreed to in advance. There are many obstacles in such a course. The Greek political class fears the political cost that reviving this issue will have. The Turkish political class, which theoretically does not rule out such an eventuality in fact places so many preconditions that make such a solution prohibitive. That does not mean that diplomacy must resign itself to the current situation and problems. A military clash would be disastrous for both countries. Greece is also taking initiatives in the Middle East such as the foreign minister’s trip to Libya and Egypt yesterday.
The PM’s speech in Parliament yesterday during debate on the 2020 budget absolutely confirmed the new liberal spirit that is tending to prevail throughout the country.
The PM also announced a partnership between three public hospitals with the private sector “'in line with the Swedish model'.
The PM personally assumed the responsibility and cost by avoiding pledges, a climate of handouts, and supplementing the income of electorally crucial social group and forces.
Yet when one goes from theory to the reality on the ground, one cannot but wonder how that aim can be achieved when Turkey is attempting to to create in a totally arbitrary manner a corridor in the Mediterranean.
'SYRIZA has become their [terrorists'] refuge. Consequently, we expect you to take a stand. Your support will strengthen our support for you.,' Erdogan said he told Mitsotakis.
The dialogue with Turkey must continue even if the positions of the Greek side are of those of one crying in the wilderness.
Mitsotakis called for the enforcement of the EU-Turkey statement that lays out Ankara's and the EU's obligations and said EU solidarity must been taken seriously.
